This showed on HBO last night. Being a movie about talking owls, I didn’t think that Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole would be anything other than a cutesy children’s movie in acceptable CG. Boy, was I wrong. Not just about a bunch of cute baby owls, the film touches on topics such war, corruption, brainwashing, and exploitation. The script, pacing, and direction were precise, and the graphics and design were very finely done. I think an example would be this scene above, where Soren was flying in slo-mo through a typhoon above an ocean at night, as well as the fight scenes between the owls with their armor and talon-blades (whatever they were called).
